Privacy Policy

What we collect

When you visit DeveloperLand, your browser generates a random, anonymous session ID and stores it in your browser’s local storage. It is not tied to your name or email unless you choose to create an account (see below).

We record, per visit and per click:

• The page path you viewed (for example, /tool-city).
• The random session ID mentioned above.
• For clicks, a short text label of what you clicked (for example, a button’s visible text), truncated to 80 characters.
• A timestamp.

We do not record your IP address, exact location, device fingerprint, or the contents of anything you type into inputs or text fields, those are explicitly excluded from click tracking.

How it’s used

This data feeds a private analytics dashboard, visible only to the site operator, showing aggregate visitor counts and which attractions and features get engagement. It is never sold, shared, or used for advertising, and there are no third-party analytics or ad trackers on this site.

Local storage

Besides the session ID, your browser also stores your bookmarks, visited districts, achievements, and learning-roadmap progress in local storage, entirely on your own device. This stays on your device and is never sent to us unless you create an account. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it.

Accounts (optional)

Creating an account is entirely optional and only useful if you want your bookmarks, achievements, and roadmap progress to follow you across devices and browsers. Sign-in uses GitHub OAuth, we never ask for or store a password. We store the name, email, and avatar GitHub provides, plus whatever bookmarks, achievements, and roadmap progress you have, nothing else. The first time you sign in, whatever progress you already made anonymously on that browser is merged into your account. This data is never sold, shared, or used for marketing.

Retention

Daily and monthly visit counters expire automatically. The all-time unique-visitor count and recent-activity feed persist indefinitely, but contain only random session IDs, page paths, and click labels, never anything personally identifying.

Your choices

Clearing your browser’s local storage resets your session ID and erases your saved bookmarks and progress. Blocking JavaScript prevents tracking entirely, though it will also disable most of the site. If you have an account, contact us (below) to have it and its data deleted.
